This piece brings a bold slice of Louisiana swamp life to life with dramatic depth and color. At the center is a powerful alligator, executed with layered wooden cutouts that push beyond the frame, I wanted to give the creature a lifelike sense of motion as it lunges forward with its jaws open. Behind it, a storm brews across the bayou, dark clouds, streaks of lightning, and reflections dancing on the water set an intense, atmospheric backdrop.

A cypress tree rises from the swamp, stretching outside the upper edge of the frame, supporting a brightly colored Creole style house perched impossibly in its branches. The vibrant reds, greens, and blues of the house contrast with the moody sky, adding a whimsical, surreal twist to the scene.

My combination of bold brushwork, exaggerated color, and sculptural elements creates a dynamic storytelling piece, rooted in New Orleans culture, rich with humor, danger, and Southern charm.
